SALEM PUBLISHING TO DISCONTINUE CCM MAGAZINE
According to a press release on the parent company website, Salem Communications will cease publishing CCM Magazine effective with the April issue. CCM has been a leading Christian Music printed publication for almost 30 years.
Jim Cumbee, speaking for Salem Communications and Publisher of CCM Magazine said, "CCM Magazine readers tell us they want more information and want it faster than can be delivered in a monthly printed magazine. Accordingly, we will discontinue the printed version of CCM Magazine to put increased energies toward the continued growth and enhancement of our comprehensive Christian music and entertainment online network."
While this move may not currently impact Salem's other publications which include the Singing News and the Homecoming Magazine it does indicate clearly a continued move away from traditional print publications to online publications which can deliver news and content more quickly & timely.
Charles Brady the editor of www.thesoutherngospel.com & www.sogospel.com stated, "This is just one more sign of the changing times as we move into a digital world. Everything is changing. The Internet has lead us all into a quickly changing environment. We just learned this week that one of the powerhouse media outlets in our home state of NC ( Landmark Communications ) is considering selling off the Greensboro New & Record. A front page article in the Sunday edition questioned how much longer newspapers could survive. This move by Salem Communications is probably just the tip of the iceberg as the publicly traded communications giant seeks to dodge the digital stones that are sure to be flying as they adjust to the realities of the digital age."
The April issue will be the final printed version of CCM Magazine.

Kim McLean To Record DVD In Nashville This Saturday Night!
Kim McLean, North Carolina's Appalachian angel, sings with a heart haunted and blessed by the mountains of blue smoke where she was raised. Cherokee-Irish roots bring a special truth and emotion to her music, of which she has lived every note...every lyric.
She has written thousands of songs and had over 200 of them recorded by artists like Tim McGraw, Lee Ann Womack, Trisha Yearwood, Jennifer Hanson, Eve Selis, Shana Morrison, The Martins, Vestal Goodman, Kathie Lee Gifford and more. Her songs have been heard on J*A*G, West Wing, and Hope & Faith (which included a guest spot for her as well).
Kim Patton-Johnston was the name she has written under for years. Her song honors have included a Dove Award for Song of the Year, NSAI's Gospel Song of the Year, and an ASCAP Award for "Beautiful Goodbye". What a blessing to have your own songs recorded...but when they are your own life...there comes a time, when you want to sing the songs that you have lived. This Saturday night that desire becomes a reality for Kim. Make your plans now to join her in the historic First Luthern Church in Nashville, TN as she records her very first live DVD!

Nashville, TN (October 1, 2007) - Diamond Rio and Arby's are celebrating their fifth year for the Arby's Charity Tour Nashville hosted by Diamond Rio and presented by Old Mutual to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee. The previous editions of this exciting golf event have raised over $425,000 for the children of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee.
The two-day event kicks off on Sunday, October 14 featuring a concert by Diamond Rio and surprise guests, as well as a silent and live auction at the Wildhorse Saloon. Tickets are on-sale to the public and available at www.ticketmaster.com Tickets are $20.00 in advance and $25.00 at the door. Fans will have an opportunity to bid on unique auction items like autographed lyrics of Shania Twain’s “You’re Still the One,” Jimmie Johnson’s autographed champagne bottle from the Nextel Cup Championship finish line, and an autographed script from the pilot episode of the hit series “Medium” to name a few.
On Monday, October 15, golfers will tee off at the Hermitage Golf Course and keep their fingers crossed that Mother Nature will opt for a dry day. "The past couple of years our tournament has been rained out, and we have played sports trivia to decide who takes home the trophy," shares golf enthusiast Marty Roe. "However, as much as everyone is there to have a great day on the golf course - more importantly they are there to raise funding for Big Brothers Big Sisters - and they have not let a soggy day affect that. At the end of the day, golf or no golf, it is about writing the charity a big check."
In conjunction with the tournament, Arby's Restaurant locations have been selling $1 pin-ups with all proceeds going to serve more children in Middle Tennessee. In addition to the pin-up sales, the Arby's Charity Tour Bus and a replica of Matt Kenseth’s #17 Arby’s NASCAR will travel throughout Middle Tennessee October 11 - 16, providing a stage for activities such as volunteer recruiting drives and teaching the Arby's Values Lessons to area school children.
Big Brothers Big Sisters is Middle Tennessee's most effective youth mentoring organization where volunteers are matched with a child in a one-to-one relationship. The two share in everyday activities like working on school assignments and participating in community service projects. This relationship causes children in the program to do better in school, avoid gangs and violence, and establish goals for themselves. For more information, or to contact Big Brothers Big Sisters, visit www.mentorakid.org or call (615) 329-9191.
Six-time Vocal Group of the year, Diamond Rio have sold over ten million albums, received 13 Grammy nominations, 15 consecutive CMA Vocal Group of the Year nominations (making history as the first band to receive this accolade) and celebrated numerous number one singles including "One More Day," "Beautiful Mess," "Meet In The Middle" and "How Your Love Makes Me Feel." They will release their first-ever holiday project, A Diamond Rio Christmas: The Star Still Shines on October 9. Band mates Marty Roe, Jimmy Olander, Dana Williams, Gene Johnson, Brian Prout and Dan Truman are long-time National Ambassadors of Big Brothers Big Sisters and have been proud supporters of BBBS for over a decade.
Limited teams are still available for the golf tournament. Interested golfers can log-on to www.arbysfoundation.org/charity-tour/view/nashville for participation information.

Emergent Gospel Announces Winning Songs For 2007
Emergent Gospel Songfest Winners D.K. & Sherrie Brewster with
Emergent Gospels Charles Brady.
(Asheboro, NC) May 8th, 2007 - It took hundreds of hours of work to narrow down an excellent group of songs from this years Emergent Gospel Songfest to the TOP 10 and a last minute decision by the recording artists as to which songs would be recorded but the official results of the Emergent Gospel Songfest 2007 were announced at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center on April 28th.
The 2 songs which will be recorded on an upcoming project by either the Talley Trio, Tony Gore, the Greenes or the Hoppers are “The Best Is Yet To Come” written by D.K. & Sherrie Brewster and “I Think Too Much Of Her” by Beverly & Kenny Sexton. Congratulations to all the writers this year! You made our job really difficult by sending in some of the best material we have heard to date!
Top 10 Songwriters with Emergent Gospels Charles Brady.
L to R - Thomas Lilly, D.K. Brewster, Charles Brady, Sherrie Brewster
and Amber Maxwell.
It was a special treat for me personally to get the chance to meet with some of the TOP 10 Writers at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. I always look forward to meeting the writers who attend and getting to hear some of the stories behind the songs. What a great honor it is for Emergent Gospel to have the chance to team up with Abraham Productions & Westhouse Publishing to bring to our readers one of the most exciting opportunities to connect songwriters with the artists who need those songs!
Over the next 6-8 weeks writers who had songs that did not place in the TOP 10 will receive the judges score sheets with their scores and any notes that the judges have made regarding the songs. Those placing in the TOP 10 will be offered a free 10 song songwriters catalog at www.radioactivewriters.com which is the newest Caraway Media Group website solution to meeting the needs of songwriters and recording artists by connecting them in a new online community. The site is still in beta test mode and will go live on July 7th, 2007 along with 2 other new sites currently in development.

Emergent Gospel Songfest Deadline Coming. Do We Have YOUR SONGS?
It has been said many times that our entire Gospel Music Industry revolves around one thing. THE SONG! It is certainly the heart & soul of everything that we do here at Caraway Media Group. Without the song we have nothing. Artists, record labels, recording studios, radio stations, DJs, concert promoters, publishers, record stores, music lawyers, radio promoters, duplication companies, public relations firms, music media companies, choir directors, music ministers and on and on the list goes. And every one of them would be out of work today if it were not for one group of individuals. The Songwriters!
And without a growing stable of quality song writers we wouldn’t have a song to sing. One of the biggest challenges that face artists today when they go to record a project is selecting just the right songs for that project.
I have talked with artists who go through hundreds of songs before picking those 10 or 11 songs that best represent the message they are trying to share. Sometimes it’s a slow ballad they need or maybe it’s a peppy up tempo tune they need. Maybe it’s a particular message or theme they are looking for. One things for sure. We have hundreds of artists who are regularly looking for good quality material to record.
That’s where Emergent Gospel & The Emergent Gospel Songfest come in! We are currently looking for the best songs to present to some of the best artists in our industry who will make the final selections of the TOP 2 songs that will be recorded on an upcoming project by a major recording artist. The TOP 10 songs will be announced in a few weeks and those writers will be invited to attend the Emergent Gospel Songfest that will take place on Saturday, April 28th at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center in front of hundreds of fans and artists.
The final deadline is fast approaching and you need to have your songs mailed by April 1st to make sure they reach the offices of Caraway Media Group in time to be judged and scored.
Each entry that is submitted will receive an extensive critique that focuses on the 5 critical elements for a commercially successful song. Each song is then examined using 24 different critique questions about the song and then grading points are averaged and applied to the 5 critical song elements before a final song score is received. The judges will then offer any special comments on the song with the hope that any areas that need attention can be addressed and the writers can know where they need to focus their attention in perfecting their craft of songwriting.
There is also a very exciting new element being added to this year’s competition. Last year we received a number of really great songs, any of which could have been selected and recorded by a major artist. The biggest problem that we had was narrowing down to just the TOP 10 songs! In fact, last year while we could only have 2 winning songs we actually had 3 songs that are going to be cut on upcoming projects by The Hoppers, Tony Gore and The Greenes. I have studied all year on how to get those other TOP 10 songs into the hands of quality recording artists and I think we have found the solution!
This year for the first time ever we are launching a brand new site that will match up select song writers with recording artists and publishers looking for great new material to record. After the winning songs have been selected by the artists we will then place every song that meets or exceeds a certain score into this new site for 12 full months. During that time recording artists and publishers looking for new material can log into the site and listen to the songwriter demos and view the song lyrics and have the songwriters contact information to make the connection. Best of all the artists who will use the free service will be hearing the best songs from the best writers in the world!
Emergent Gospel is part of the growing Caraway Media Group family of sites that include www.sogospel.com www.thesoutherngospel.com www.radioactiveairplay.com www.musicstore24.com www.emergentgospel.com www.gospelmusicnetwork.com and coming very soon www.radioactivewriters.com
