Jason Waldroup to leave Greater Vision and attend Seminary

March 31, 2008

jasonwaldroup300x225.jpgJason Waldroup, Greater Vision’s long-time tenor, has announced his plans to leave the group to pursue a Seminary education, beginning this Fall.

According to Jason…”This is a decision I have been struggling with for more than a year, and the time has come for me to follow what I believe to be God’s will for my life. I have delayed this decision because of my love for what I’ve been privileged to do for the past thirteen years as a part of Greater Vision, and my relationships with Gerald and Rodney. They, along with Chad Baker, our Product Manager, are family to me, and they’re my closest friends. That has made this decision that much more difficult.”

Gerald Wolfe, manager of Greater Vision, states, “Jason is like a son to me, as well as being one of the closest friends I’ve ever had. None of us want to see him leave, but we have encouraged him to follow God’s leading, no matter what, and leave the consequences to Him.”

Rodney Griffin, the group’s baritone, stated, “I will certainly miss standing beside Jason every night, but he has my full support as he moves into his next phase of ministry.”

Jason will be active in the selection of his replacement and will remain with the group to help train the new group member until his schooling begins in the Fall.

Jason Waldroup joined Greater Vision in 1995. He has been the recipient of numerous Singing News Fan Awards, most recently being named Gospel Music’s Favorite Tenor in 2007. He, his wife Missy, and their children, Abbie and Jonathon reside in Morristown, Tennessee.

This is so sad . I have enjoyed his singing so much . The group will be missing a great partner ,but God must be put first . His timing will always take top billing over our wishes ,and I am glad Jason is taking the step to follow God’s leading . I pray the right person will take his place and sing for the glory of our Lord .

Well, the press release sure sounded convincing — to the contrary, Jason has decided to forego the seminary education and take the paycheck and the free house from a church in Houston where he’ll be acting as music director. Of course, he can always do the “mail order seminary” thing like the Father-Son Preaching team did at the church he’s going to!!

Agreed, “Susan” doesn’t know what she’s talking about. I go to the church (Central Baptist) where Jason is SERVING as Minister of Music and he is indeed attending a “mail order seminary”, Louisiana Baptist University, where numerous great ministers received their education, including my brother-in-law. He did not get a free house, and yes, people in the ministry do receive a paycheck.

The “Father-Son Preaching team” is leading souls to Christ; I’d like to know what “Susan” is doing for the Lord?

Jason, I wrestled with moving from one church to the one the Lord was calling me to. I have never been to that church but three times in 10+ years. God sent me there to do his work. He is sending you out to do the same. I sing Southern Gospel and I loe the Lord and I love doing his will. God Bless your obeidence. It is better than sacrifice.

You are being a GREAT testimony to your children by following God’s calling. No matter what the world says, ALWAYS follow God’s calling. An Susan, even if Jason did get a free house, why is it any of your business. Although he did not get one, he would have deserved it if he did. Look at the impact he has had and still has on SG fans. He sure had an impact on my life and still does. God bless you and your family, Jason.

Got something to say?
