Georgia Bluegrass gospel music radio personality Otis Head, 89, celebrated 50 years in radio May 31 with the Conasauga Bluegrass Festival held in his honor near his home north of Dalton, Ga.
Head began his broadcasting career with a live musical broadcast from WBLJ in Dalton, later moving to WRCD and then finally the last 23 years on WTTI. He continues broadcasting weekly from WTTI, 1530 AM each Saturday from 12:30-1:30.
“I would never believed the first time I was on radio I would have went 50 years,” he said. “I just play good music and tell people about my sponsors, many of which have been with me for decades and I sure do appreciate each and every one of them.”
Some among the performers there to honor his contributions to the industry and region were Raymond Fairchild, The Lewis Family, Randall Franks, J. Max McKee Band, Hickory Wind, Lakeside Bluegrass Gospel Band, Raven Welch Band, Valley River Trio, All For Jesus Band and others. From left are Emcee C.W. DAILEY & VINCENT PERFORM TRIBUTE TO THE STATLER BROTHERS AT COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME® AND MUSEUM’S MEDALLION CEREMONY
NASHVILLE, TENN. (July 1, 2008)–Acclaimed new bluegrass duo Dailey & Vincent performed “Do You Know You Are My Sunshine” in tribute to the Statler Brothers Sunday night at the invitation-only Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum’s Medallion Ceremony marking the official induction of the Statlers and Tom T. Hall. Banjo player Joe Dean and mandolinist Jeff Parker filled the quartet parts with Jamie Dailey and Darrin Vincent, and the group drew a standing ovation for their performance of the Statlers’ first #1 hit.

NASHVILLE, TENN. (May 29, 2008)—New Rounder Records duo Dailey & Vincent top this week’s Count Down Yonder Weekly Top 17 Songs of SIRIUS Bluegrass with “More Than a Name on a Wall” from their self-titled CD released in January. The song, written by Jimmy Fortune and John Rimel about the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, was a hit for the Statler Brothers in 1989 and is still moving and timely today. Read more

KINGSPORT, TN APRIL 12, 2008 –Renowned country singer Stella Parton was a featured performer at Dr. Ralph Stanley’s 81st birthday party Saturday, April 12th at the Meadowview Convention Center. Stella performed with the East Tennessee State University Bluegrass band and sang songs from her Appalachian Blues and Appalachian Gospel cds. Stella said “I was honored to perform for such a special occasion. Dr. Stanley is one of my very favorite bluegrass artists. The ETSU bluegrass band was awesome and I had a great time singing with them.”

Self-Titled CD Earns More Praise, While “Sweet Carrie” and “By the Mark” Generate Increased Airplay
NASHVILLE, TENN. (April, 2008)— Dailey & Vincent have debuted at #4 on the Bluegrass Unlimited National Bluegrass Survey album chart in the April 2008 issue with their self-titled album on Rounder Records. At the same time, the critically acclaimed disc has spent its seventh week in the top 5 on Billboard’s Top Bluegrass Albums chart, where it debuted at #2. On the Bluegrass Music Profiles Top 10 Bluegrass CD’s chart for April, Dailey & Vincent is at #2, and on the XM Bluegrass Junction Top 40 albums, it moves to #3 on the April chart (representing airplay during the month of March).
